A one-second reserve inside the power reserve
A mainspring can keep a watch running for days, but that does not mean its driving torque remains unchanged. Strehler places a much smaller energy buffer close to the regulating end of the train. The seconds wheel runs from this local spring while the upstream mechanism is held; a periodic release allows the train to replenish it. The distinction matters: a remontoir is not another escapement and does not by itself prove a more accurate watch. The article-worthy feature is the controlled replenishment cycle and the specific path by which the star wheel and stopping jewel organise it. 1
Precision that can be set, not just advertised
An extremely close lunar gear ratio is of limited practical use when the owner cannot set the display accurately. Lune Exacte addresses the reading and setting problem with a three-hour Vernier. This provides a useful bridge from abstract astronomical gearing to something a wearer can actually do. It also exposes two different meanings of precision: the theoretical long-term gear-ratio error and the usable resolution of the indication. Neither promises a watch that runs for millions of years. The maker now qualifies its former record with a 2024 endpoint; that dated statement should take precedence over an unrevised superlative elsewhere on the page. 2
The manufacturer behind another independent’s design
Zwinz’s account is unusually useful because it separates the drawing board from component production. He credits Strehler’s manufacturing while retaining responsibility for his own Winnerl design. UhrTeil’s service description explains how that division can work: customers can obtain parts, prototypes or assembled movements in different combinations. This is evidence of a flexible production relationship, not a reason to erase either maker from the story. It also makes an all-or-nothing use of “in-house” unhelpful: a watch can be individually conceived and finished while important machining is performed by a specialist supplier. 34

Evidence and limits
How the claims are supported
- source stated claim
Strehler’s remontoir uses a local spring to drive the seconds wheel while the upstream train is stopped, then releases a star wheel one tooth to replenish the spring once per second.
- source stated claim
The remontoir is intended to reduce the effect of upstream torque changes on the escapement.
- source stated claim
Lune Exacte’s stated gearing error is one day in two million years; its Vernier permits moon-age setting and reading in three-hour increments.
- source stated claim
Bernhard Zwinz credits Strehler with making most components for a Winnerl movement to Zwinz’s own designs.
- source stated claim
UhrTeil describes CNC manufacture alongside prototyping and optional movement assembly; customers may purchase component kits or assembled movements.
- source stated claim
Andreas Strehler’s official history describes an independent practice established in 1995 after work as a prototypist at Renaud et Papi.
- source stated claim
The official history dates UhrTeil AG to 2005; its company page describes development, component manufacture and movement assembly services for other businesses.
- source stated claim
Strehler’s chronology records a move to Sirnach in 2007; AHCI lists the practice at Standbachstrasse 26, Sirnach.
- source stated claim
The maker dates Sauterelle and its one-second remontoir to 2013 and Lune Exacte to 2016.
- source stated claim
AHCI describes Strehler’s early independent workshop in Winterthur before moving to Sirnach.
Known limits
- Patent numbers appear in the official chronology but patent documents have not been inspected; current commercial-register evidence is absent.
