Finishing a legacy by starting the movement again
The name covers several stages and several kinds of contribution. Pratt’s idea and Lesemann’s early prototype preceded Soprana’s redesign; Jenny Pratt’s approval supported the continuation, and Perpétuel supplied the commercial partnership. Soprana says the old watch was not simply ready to finish: its deadbeat seconds did not operate properly, and he judged the movement too thick. DP07 is therefore a redesigned interpretation, not a watch that can be assigned wholly to a deceased maker. The movement makes the intellectual connection visible through its flying barrels and one-second remontoir. The seconds hand’s steps arise from that periodic energy mechanism rather than serving merely as an imitation of a quartz display. This is a stronger explanation of continuity than an unqualified claim that a historical company has returned. 123
The supplier behind two radically different visual ideas
The workshop’s recurring role is development, not a single visual signature. Soprana recalls bringing an interest in split-flap displays to the SF24 project, while the Astronomia collaboration joined watch mechanics to a jeweller’s interest in conspicuous rotating elements and specially cut stones. The later DP07 presents a far quieter dial, but exposes the regulating and energy-management mechanisms on the back. These projects make a useful contrast between the client’s brief, the developer’s proposed solution and the physical object. The 2014, 2016 and 2018 Astronomia dates in Soprana’s interview describe stages in a client relationship, not a founding date for every business involved. His testimony is valuable precisely where it names a decision or challenge; it does not authorise attributing every subsequent watch under the client’s name to his workshop. 2413

Ownership and continuity
Modern development business; family-supported continuation of a Pratt project is not evidence of uninterrupted historical corporate continuity. 42

A brand history cannot authenticate, appraise, or establish the provenance of a particular watch.
Evidence and limits
How the claims are supported
- source stated claim
Perpétuel’s announcement credits Stewart Lesemann with work alongside Derek Pratt in 2009 and a prototype presented in 2011, followed by Soprana’s redesign from 2014 with Jenny Pratt’s approval.
- source stated claim
Soprana recalls that the earlier watch’s deadbeat seconds did not work properly and that its thickness led him to design a new movement rather than merely repair the prototype.
- source stated claim
Perpétuel specifies DP07 with a one-second remontoir, deadbeat seconds driven from the remontoir pinion, twin flying barrels, 18,000 vibrations per hour and a 36-hour reserve.
- verified fact
The 2024 hands-on account describes a triangular ruby cam, remontoir spring and fork, exposed flying barrels and a Maltese-cross stopwork limiting the usable reserve.
- source stated claim
The collaboration announcement includes Jenny Pratt’s testimony and identifies Hamdan AlHudaidi and Melika in the Perpétuel partnership; the hands-on account names Melika Yazdjerdi.
- source stated claim
Soprana identifies SF24 and Astronomia for Jacob & Co. as early workshop projects and recalls split-flap displays by Solari di Udine as an inspiration for SF24.
- source stated claim
In the 2022 interview Soprana dates the Astronomia prototype presentation to 2014, followed by Astronomia Sky in 2016 and Astronomia Maestro in 2018.
- source stated claim
Soprana identifies Ateliers 7h38 as his co-founded development workshop; a 2022 interview locates his atelier in Vaumarcus in the canton of Neuchâtel.
Known limits
- Two original interviews, collaborator specifications and a handled object support a substantive profile. Founding date, co-founder name, rights contracts and full deliveries remain unknown.
