A 2004 internet-only start

Christopher Ward's corporate chronology states that Mike France, Peter Ellis and Chris Ward founded the company in 2004 as an internet-only watch business. It identifies the C5 Malvern Automatic as the first watch in 2005.

This founding account does not authenticate an early C5 or establish its original specification. 1

Swiss collaboration has a stated chronology

The company says it began working with boutique Swiss watchmaking company Synergies Horlogères in 2008. Its milestones also identify early JJ Calibres work with master watchmaker Johannes Jahnke.

Partner references should not be used as a universal movement claim for every Christopher Ward model. 1

Trident is a key dive-watch line

Christopher Ward dates the C60 Trident Automatic to 2009 and describes it as a professional diving instrument. It says the C60 Trident became, and remains, its best-selling dive watch.

Water resistance, servicing and safe use are reference- and condition-specific. 1

SH21 is a movement milestone

The company states that Calibre SH21 appeared in 2014 following a merger with Synergies Horlogères and describes it as a five-day chronometer movement and the first commercially viable mechanical movement from a UK watch brand in over 50 years.

Do not infer SH21 from a brand or collection name without the exact reference evidence. 1

Military-associated models need careful language

Christopher Ward's C65 Sandhurst material says it is licensed by the UK Ministry of Defence to make watches bearing official insignia and calls the model an officially licensed tribute to the British Army.

That is not evidence that a particular C65 was military-issued or carried operational provenance. 2

Keep conclusions source-bounded

The sources support the 2004 foundation, Swiss collaboration, Trident, SH21 and the specific C65 licensing statement. They do not authenticate a watch, prove military issue or establish condition and value.

Use exact reference documentation and inspection for consequential decisions. 12

Johannes Jahnke: JJ01, SH21 and later technical work

Johannes Jahnke is documented in Christopher Ward’s manuals as the creator of the JJ01 jumping-hour calibre and the watchmaker responsible for SH21. These are specific design credits, not a claim that he personally manufactured every component.

The C9 5 Day Automatic manual describes SH21 as a modular movement with 120 hours of power reserve. Its account places Jahnke’s design work within Christopher Ward’s movement-development program.

Later documentary evidence links his technical work to Sellita: Swiss application CH722198A2 names Jahnke Johannes as inventor and Sellita Watch Co S A as original assignee. It was filed on 3 October 2024 and published on 15 April 2026. This establishes a named invention and assignee; it does not, by itself, prove a current job title, commercial release or complete career history. 345
