Gold and rubber formed the original proposition
Hublot's own anniversary history says Carlo Crocco created the first Hublot watch in 1980, pairing a gold case with a natural-rubber strap. The brand treats that material combination and porthole-inspired bezel as a foundation for its Art of Fusion identity.
For owner research, material language is context rather than authentication. Establish the exact reference, case construction and strap specification before drawing conclusions from a design cue. 1
Big Bang changed the family structure
Hublot says the Big Bang arrived in 2005 and became its best-selling collection, while its 40-year material frames Classic Fusion as a later reinterpretation of the early design language.
A Big Bang, Classic Fusion and Spirit of Big Bang should be treated as separate family and case-form questions. Their shared branding does not make their movements, materials or dimensions interchangeable. 1
Unico adds a movement-specific layer
Hublot's current Big Bang material describes Unico as its first in-house chronograph, introduced in 2010. That gives researchers a clear reason to check movement naming and production era rather than using Big Bang as a catch-all technical label.
For any individual watch, use the reference, calibre and official technical sheet to separate a Unico-equipped model from other Hublot chronographs. 2
Case architecture is a reference question
Hublot's collections use different forms, materials and constructions under connected family names. Record the exact case material, diameter and family designation before comparing models.
This prevents a familiar bezel or rubber strap from becoming a substitute for the reference number. 1
Material-fusion language needs technical support
The Art of Fusion story describes an aesthetic and material direction. For an individual watch, its gold, ceramic, titanium, rubber or other construction should be checked against the model's official documentation.
Do not infer an uncommon material or movement merely from a collection image. 1
Archive the original configuration
Hublot watches can change through straps, polishing and later servicing. Preserve clear photographs, reference details and service paperwork when researching a specific piece.
Family history gives context, while object evidence supports an individual identification. 12
Key dates
Ownership and continuity
Hublot's narrative links the 1980 gold-and-rubber watch, 2005 Big Bang and 2010 Unico movement in a material-fusion identity. 12
Identification and service
For an individual watch, record the complete reference, serial, dial, case, and movement markings and compare them with dated primary documentation.
A brand history cannot authenticate, appraise, or establish the provenance of a particular watch.
