Why a watchmaker brought cases inside but sent screws outside
Myrick’s account gives two different answers for two different parts. A disrupted case order exposed a dependency that he addressed by making cases. Making every screw by hand, however, consumed effort that he later redirected by choosing a supplier. The same workshop therefore became more self-sufficient in one operation and less vertically integrated in another. A shared headstock system adds a second practical lesson: keeping the part’s reference position while moving between a rose engine and CNC reduces repeated setup. The important story is control of the right operations, not a single percentage of parts described as homemade. 1
Why 30/30 does not mean thirty finished watches
The school project supplies the beginning of the design, not a permanent verdict on the finished calibre. Myrick’s early interview identifies retained pinions alongside new wheels; later reports describe further changes in manufacture and finishing. The 2020 review’s 30/30 specimen is equally easy to misread: it is an edition number, while the same report says only that several watches had been delivered. Reading the object together with its dated account preserves both the technical development and the difference between an intended edition and a completed production total. 231

How the claims are supported
- source stated claim
The 2025 workshop visit reports that a disrupted case order led Myrick to bring case-making inside, while expensive hand-made screws were later replaced with supplied screws.
- verified fact
The visit describes a System 3R zero-point headstock allowing components to move among antique guilloche equipment and CNC machines with less resetting.
- source stated claim
The 2013 interview traces his watch to a Unitas-based school project and describes new train wheels with retained Unitas pinions in the early construction.
- verified fact
The 2020 review examines a 1 of 30 watch marked 30/30, with calibre 29.30, and says several examples had been delivered.
- verified fact
Myrick describes building an independent atelier after Lititz Watch Technicum/WOSTEP training and years of restoration; contemporary reporting places his early practice in Bend, Oregon.
- verified fact
The 2025 visit dates a larger workshop to 2021 and describes a proposed 28-piece successor series as conceptual development.
- source stated claim
Myrick’s early account identifies a grande-sonnerie-style winding click as an influence in a simple watch.
- verified fact
The 2020 review locates the workshop in Sisters, Oregon.
Known limits
- 2012/2013 presentation accounts conflict; the proposed 28-piece next series was still conceptual in the 2025 account. No 2026 production audit obtained.
