BLU, MHM and LEDERER are not interchangeable labels

LEDERER is Bernhard Lederer’s current watch brand and manufacture, distinct in identity from his earlier BLU branding and MHM contract-development activity. In the interview, Lederer discusses launching BLU in 2000 and explains its progression from Bernhard Lederer Uhrmacher to Bernhard Lederer Universe.

Lederer describes MHM as Manufacture de Haute Horlogerie et Micromécanique, undertaking restoration and contract development before renewed emphasis on his own watches. Lederer’s 1986 master-craft qualification clock belongs to his personal career chronology; it is not sufficient evidence that today’s LEDERER brand was founded in 1986. 1234

The work and why it matters

The current manufacture presents its workshop in the Neuchâtel area of Switzerland. The manufacture reports internal making of bridges, wheels and pinions, alongside design and finishing; it does not provide a complete independent supplier audit.

The Central Impulse Chronometer uses two gear trains and two remontoirs with a double-wheel escapement, developing ideas associated with George Daniels. Lederer’s chronology records the Central Impulse Chronometer’s 2021 GPHG Innovation Prize. 132

People, production and attribution

The brand records the 2024 GPHG Chronometry Prize for its Three Times Certified Observatory Chronometer. A 7 August 2026 interview and the current catalogue establish continuing LEDERER public activity; discontinued historical references are not evidence the brand has closed.

The public material establishes Bernhard Lederer’s creative leadership, but the legal-notices page names only LEDERER and does not establish a full registered ownership structure. The August 2026 interview discusses work toward a new regulating concept; a stated future project is not treated here as a completed commercial release. 3456

What the Central Impulse Chronometer does

The Central Impulse Chronometer addresses how energy reaches the regulating organ. Its two gear trains and remontoirs feed a double-wheel escapement. A remontoir is an intermediate energy store: it is replenished in small cycles so the escapement is less directly exposed to changes in mainspring force.

The GPHG entry for the 39 mm model describes this double-remontoir arrangement. That explains the design’s purpose; it does not establish measured accuracy for an individual watch. Specifications also vary by reference, so do not transfer the 39 mm entry’s dimensions or reserve to every CIC.

For a collector, separate three questions: which reference is this, what mechanism does it use, and what evidence supports its present condition and timekeeping? The brand’s engineering account answers the second; the first and third require object-specific records. 7

Known limits

  • What register records establish the current operator and exact brand-launch date?
  • Which legal entities, contracts or rights connect the three names?
  • Which observatory certificates and test protocols substantiate each chronometer claim?
  • This identity dossier is not a complete catalogue of every watch or reference.
