One family name, two independent paths

McGonigle is a distinct watch brand founded in 2006 by brothers John and Stephen McGonigle. SJX reported in July 2020 that John separated from the shared operation in 2019 and launched Oileán.

The 2020 interview distinguishes John’s Irish practice from the McGonigle operation under Stephen near Neuchâtel. Oileán is John’s separately named venture, not an established legal successor or a simple renaming of McGonigle. 1234

What “in-house” means for Tuscar and Ogma

The catalogue describes Tuscar as a time-only watch with a movement developed in-house. The current website presents Ogma as the product following Tuscar and describes its movement as in-house.

The catalogue’s in-house terminology is not a component-by-component audit and cannot establish that every part is made in Ireland. 1

People, production and attribution

AHCI’s biography dates John’s return to Ireland and independent workshop to 1999, preceding the joint brand. AHCI records John as a member from 2013.

A December 2020 interview describes an earlier amicable separation less precisely; the exact legal date and share transfer are not established here. The McGonigle catalogue identifies the Tourbillon as a branded work. 241

Continuity and the record today

Ceol is presented as the brand’s minute repeater. The catalogue remains accessible, but that observation does not verify September 2026 stock, deliveries, ownership or an uninterrupted production history.

The documented story combines Irish independent practice, a Swiss-based shared brand and a later separation; those strands should not be collapsed into one maker’s output. 124

Ownership and continuity

Oileán is John’s separately named venture, not an established legal successor or a simple renaming of McGonigle. 34

A brand history cannot authenticate, appraise, or establish the provenance of a particular watch.
