When “in-house” changes meaning across a catalogue

The productive answer is model-specific. The company’s clockmaking account names unusually demanding capabilities—mainsprings, fusée chains and bell tuning—rather than merely saying it assembles clocks. Its Bray wristwatch is a different proposition: the movement is identified as an ETA 6498, while the company describes making the case and dial components around it. These statements can coexist. A profile should show how existing workshop skills are transferred into a wristwatch without turning that transfer into an unsupported claim of a newly invented calibre. The distinction helps a reader inspect the watch intelligently instead of sorting the whole company into a misleading all-in-house or all-outsourced category. 12

A takeover story with more than one pair of hands

The company’s own chronology is not simply a founder-to-successor chain. It names Sinclair and Harding at the beginning, Harding and Bazley on a chiming movement, and Bray at the 1995 takeover. Its staff account also identifies Caron Bray’s inspection and dial-silvering work alongside her company-secretary role. Those distinctions provide a better human history than assigning all objects to the current public-facing maker. The near-closure anecdote should remain attributed testimony; it is not evidence that the firm closed and was later revived. Likewise, the new wristwatch has several dates—development, presentation and a planned series—which should not collapse into one “founded” year. 1324

Ownership and continuity

Founded in 1967; a founder’s departure and Bray’s 1995 takeover are separate events. Near-closure is not recorded as an actual closure. 1
