A watch that can choose not to show the time
Tempusvivendi separates timekeeping from the visible pose of the dial figure. In time mode, the figure’s extremities act as indicators on two arcs. Pressing the crown button changes the display into a composed resting image; pressing again brings back the time. The interesting distinction is between an indicator that sweeps and resets, and the additional mechanism that changes whether the figure is displaying time at all. The American Eagle specification identifies jumping hours but continuously running minutes, so the two indications should not be described as moving identically. Its automatic movement and module also belong to a different construction from Prescher’s tourbillon calibres. This is a useful object through which to explain how a complication can change the owner’s interaction with a watch, not merely add another measurement. 1
Restoration experience, shared bench work and two visible faces
The company’s chronology runs from service and restoration work to an independent workshop in 2002, a 2003 exhibition and the 2004 tourbillon collection. Eva Leube’s recollection then adds a person normally missing from a namesake-brand summary: she worked alongside Prescher on complicated watches from 2005. Her testimony supports collaboration, not a retrospective allocation of every part to either person. Tempus Nemini offers a later, tangible comparison with the figurative watches: two settable time displays occupy opposite faces while the double-axis tourbillon remains the regulating spectacle. Its useful travel feature is the independent setting of those displays. That feature is demonstrable from the described controls; a claim that the tourbillon necessarily improves real-world accuracy requires different evidence. 234
