One name on the dial, several kinds of authorship
The Dual Time offers a particularly clear example of why design, movement ancestry and manufacture need separate descriptions. Halter and Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani are credited with the joint design. Bvlgari identifies its own teams as responsible for producing the case, dials and movement, and explains the movement as a development of the BVL 138 platform rather than a blank-sheet calibre made at Halter’s bench. The visible result combines four pale subdials and distinctive hands with the Octo case. The added time-zone, date and day/night functions are what make the change more than a decorative signature. For an enthusiast, the useful comparison is between those visible and functional changes and the underlying manufacture—not a contest over which collaborator deserves the entire watch. 1
From restoration to an atelier that trained other makers
The AHCI chronology separates the start of independent work in 1994 from the own-name Antiqua collection in 1998. Before either, it places a decade of restoration after watchmaking school. Soprana’s later recollection adds a different view of the atelier: a place where an employee could move beyond assembly into construction, machining and computer work. He describes both guidance and learning from books, rather than a single moment of instruction. That account connects the namesake business to skills later applied elsewhere without proving that every later Soprana mechanism was derived from Halter. Alongside the 2026 collaboration, it shows two distinct ways one practice can affect other watches: teaching a future independent maker, and participating directly in a jointly designed object. 231
